It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Irma J. Mokma, age 87, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Holland Hospital.
Irma was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her family and was always involved in their lives, supporting them with her time, in their activities and her prayers. Irma J Ponstein was born in Beaverdam, Michigan on May 6, 1937, to her parents William and Marie Ponstein who owned and operated a dairy farm. She was the first of eight children in the Ponstein family. She graduated in the first class of Unity Christian HS in 1954, a total class of 25 students. After graduation from HS, she was employed by Holland Furnace Company where she met her husband Terry Mokma of Holland Michigan. They married on December 14, 1957. They settled in Holland Michigan. Irma was later employed with DeWaard Interiors and next with Donnelly Corporation and retired in 2000. Irma was a member of Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church since 1958. Her church was of great importance to her and she served in various positions and activities over the years. Irma loved the Lord and lived her life serving Him.
Irma was preceded in death by her siblings, Hollis Ponstein and in-laws; Dino and Sharon Comel, Edward Kamara, Barb Ponstein, Jim and Vonnie Mokma, Kenneth Somers, and Norman Reed; and a nephew, Darren Mokma.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00am Monday, March 31, at Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church, 14 W 14th St., Holland. Rev. Benj Petroelje will officiate. Burial will be in Beaverdam Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00-4:00pm Sunday, March 30, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to Holland Christian Schools and/or Muskegon Christian Schools.
