Lois was born in Middleville, Mi to Leo and Addie Griffeth, March 2, 1926. Her upbringing was humble and difficult as one of 7 children during the Great Depression, which greatly molded her stoic character and sense of humor.
Lois was a creative and talented artist. She was employed over the years by several organizations in the Kalamazoo area. Upjohn, Jacobson’s Home Store, Barret’s Custom Draperies, and Rural Bible Mission as a cartoonist / writer. On her own, she also weaved custom baskets, reupholstered furniture, and painted beautiful flower and landscape paintings. She was also always on-call for her family, putting her own life on hold when needed during difficult times. Her grandchildren remember she gave excellent back scratches.
Henry’s work took her to Georgetown, Kentucky. After Henry’s early retirement, they returned to Galesburg, MI, to assist Susan during her studies to become a Registered Nurse. Lois provided support for two grandchildren during this time.
Following this phase of Lois’s life, they began construction of their dream home on the shores of Lake Huron in the UP on St. Martin’s Point. While here, she cataloged the local wildflowers and became known as the local botanist. She was a founding member of the Half Aster’s Club, which welcomed newcomers to the area and those going through tough times. Henry became Governor of the Lion’s Club, Upper Peninsula region, and she was active with him.
After Henry’s passing in 2001, she moved to Holland, MI to be near family in 2002. She became a member of Parkside Bible Church.
