PORT SHELDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 9, 2025) – An investigation continues into what Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies say was a nine-year-old West Ottawa Public Schools student in possession of a handgun and ammunition.
This past Tuesday, authorities were called when the unnamed youth was found with the ammo on a bus near Sheldon Woods Elementary School off of Blair Street. A further investigation into the matter revealed that the same boy had displayed the gun on the bus on May 1st, but the weapon was not loaded at the time, and no students or staff were in danger.
Determining that there were no on-going safety concerns, the child was turned over to his family, while Sheriff’s detectives continue to work with school staff on the case. The matter will be turned over to the county Prosecutor’s office for review into possible criminal charges.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
