TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 15, 2025) – A 20-year-old Jenison man is in custody following a May 10th shooting near Standale that killed a 19-year-old man.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the area of 2nd Avenue, between Lake Michigan and Fennessy drives, around 11:10 PM. They found the victim suffering from a wound to the head, and he was taken by LIFE Ambulance staffers to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment.
On Thursday, Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks disclosed more information on the incident. It was determined that the suspect had obtained a firearm in the residence during a “social gathering” and fired several rounds through the floor of an upstairs bedroom. One of those bullets went through the floor, striking Connor Lotterman in the head as he was in a downstairs room.
The victim died at the hospital, and an autopsy confirmed that the wound led to his accidental death. Charges against the unnamed suspect, who was arrested at the scene, are pending a review of the case by the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the incident.
Sparks said that there was or is no threat to the general public as a result of the incident, but the matter remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
