HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2025) – It has been a relatively quiet spring storm season along the Lakeshore, despite what happened on Thursday night.
A line of turbulent weather went through between 9 and 11 PM, bringing high winds, heavy rain, and some hail. Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service Office in Grand Rapids, with a Tornado Warning around 9:30 PM for Ottawa County, and about a half hour later for Allegan County, although there was no immediate confirmation of any twisters touching down.
Ottawa County Emergency Management Director Lou Hunt said that there were reports of fallen trees and branches, downed power lines, blocked roads, and small fires, but no injuries of any note. The website Find Energy reported more than 14,500 in Ottawa County without power as of 4:15 AM, while that number was around 13,600 in Allegan County. The most affected areas were north of Lake Macatawa, south of Kalamazoo Lake, and in Jamestown Township. Consumers Energy officials were initially hopeful of having electricity restored by Friday afternoon.
