Richard Roene (Dick) Stoudt was born January 10, 1936, in Crystal, Michigan, the only child of Bernard L. and Geraldine R. (Garner) Stoudt.
He met his perfect match, Sylvia J. Phelps of Union Grove, Wisconsin, at Moody Bible Institute, and they were married June 15, 1957. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Celeste and Kristen, two sons-in-law, Dan McDonough and Bryan Meyer, and five grandchildren: Martyn and Meredith McDonough, Sterling, Robin and Justus Meyer.
Dick graduated from Western Michigan University in 1966 and had a number of different careers, including radio and television broadcasting, insurance sales and service, restaurant ownership and management, and real estate sales.
Dick loved using his gifts and talents to serve his Lord Jesus. He sang tenor in church choir, both when they made their home in Kalamazoo and when they moved to Holland. The Stoudt family served for a year at a mission radio station in Aruba, where he used his broadcasting experience and business credentials to reach out. Dick always had a ready supply of jokes to make people laugh (or groan) and a warm way of making guests in their home, or clients at his work, feel welcomed and encouraged.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Cameron McDonough.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sylvia; children Celeste (Dan) McDonough, Kristen (Bryan) Meyer; as well as five grandchildren.
