HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 2, 2025) – In this graduation season, it is only appropriate for the City of Zeeland to hold a “commencement” ceremony on Monday evening.
Prior to the biweekly business meeting, the City Council will honor the 14 “graduates” of the second Zeeland Citizens Academy. They spent six weeks visiting various sites, learning about the fundamentals of city government, as well as its various departments, in an effort to encourage new leaders and volunteers.
The list of graduates is:
• Eli VanSingel
• Vince Boileau
• Tod Fineout
• Rebecca Perkins
• Sheri Holstege
• Rick Woodard
• Beso Sharabidze
• Pierce Velderman
• CJ Otteman
• Karen Blaukamp
• Margo Bowman
• Ally Velderman
• Steve Grewell
• Josh Wall
During the meeting itself, Council is expected to approve a job reclassification of a Geographic Information Systems position from technician to analyst, within the Zeeland Board of Public Works’ Electric Transmission and Distribution Department. Not only would this more accurately classify current needs and work being performed, but adjust pay to the range of $70,040 to $105,060, effective on July 1st.
The Zeeland Citizens Academy “graduation” ceremony will be part of the 5:45 PM Zeeland City Council’s Work Study Session, ahead of the 7 PM business meeting, both of which will be in Council Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
