Karren De Young, 83, of Hudsonville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, ran into the arms of Jesus and heard “well done, thou good and faithful servant” on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Karren was born February 4, 1942, in Doon, Iowa, to William and Jeanette (Kuiper) Lems. Karren worked in her father’s grocery store in Doon starting at about 10 years old. She graduated from Doon High School and moved to West Michigan. After settling in Hudsonville Karen started working at the Grandville IGA where she met a young man, Bob De Young. Karren and Bob married on May 24, 1963. Karren and Bob raised their family in Hudsonville and are charter members of Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her sister Corynna Boer, grandchildren: Grace Start and Luke Start, her in-laws: Nort Brower, Barb and Joe Stuive, Deb Roedema, and Jim Carlon.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bob, their children: Shelly and Doug Start, Brent and Barb De Young, Jeff and Sandy De Young; grandchildren: Hope (Drew) Looyenga, Zachary (Kelsi) Start, Jacob (Megan) Start, Isaac Start, Matthew (Brittany) De Young, Megan De Young, Katelyn De Young, Alex De Young, Tori (Gerrit) Ter Avest, Drew De Young, Autumn De Young; great-grandchildren: Charleigh, Beckham, Mila, Jaxton, Dutton, Rush, Graham, and Luca; sister Jane Brower, in-laws: Henry Boer, Pat Carlon, Chuck and Mary Roedema, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church, 7146 48th Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Wednesday, also at Georgetown PRC. Interment will be in Blendon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Christian School.
