Matthew A. Van Regenmorter age 45, of Holland, died Sunday, June 8, 2025.
.Matthew Alan Van Regenmorter was born on July 29, 1979 in Holland, Michigan to Elaine and George Van Regenmorter. He attended Calvary Baptist School where he excelled in basketball. He finished his schooling at West Ottawa High School, where he sang in the choir and played basketball. On a family trip to Colorado Springs, he began to feel a draw to serve in the military. He faithfully served in the Army for 4 years plus 2 years in the National Guard, where he was deployed to Iraq from 2005-2006, repairing electronic parts of tanks. He married in 2008 and had a son, Conner, in 2011. He worked for Camber Corporation upon leaving the army until military jobs with them came to an end. As he began a new job in a Holland machine shop, it soon became apparent he had physical and mental scars from his time in Iraq. He began treatment with the V.A for PTSD, however ongoing health problems plagued him for the rest of his life. Despite these challenges, he made many joyful memories over the remaining years with his family and dear friends from childhood and the military.
Matt found joy in many passions, from composing and playing guitar for those he loved, to engaging in trivia nights, bowling, and watching movies with friends. His loyalty as a friend shone through in his cherished trips to Mio, where he embraced his “second family,” and on boat excursions with another dear friend, sometimes shared with his son, Conner. His friendships spanned many years, including especially close relationships that began early in life and others built on a shared path of service. A dedicated Detroit Lions fan, he often proudly sported the blue lion and flying D.
He was a kind, compassionate person who loved his son and friends with unbounded generosity. He was quick to forgive and think the best about everyone. He knew Jesus as His personal Lord and Savior and loved Him with all his heart. He passed into His arms on Sunday, June 8, 2025, after a valiant fight with cancer. He will be deeply mourned and missed by his son, Conner, his parents, George and Elaine, by his siblings, Jonathan Van Regenmorter, and Christina (Channah) Van Regenmorter and his nieces Evie, Lilah and Nora, and his nephew, Lincoln, and by countless friends. And his church family at Northpoint Assembly will always miss his beautiful voice singing praises to God with all his heart.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at North Point Assembly of God, 4200 152nd Ave. Holland, with Pastor A. Joseph Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Port Sheldon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday, June 13, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland and one hour prior to the service at the church
