ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 14, 2025) – The search for a new Zeeland School Superintendent is now down to two men.
Following two separate three-hour public interview sessions on Friday, with three hopefuls in each of them, members of the Zeeland Board of Education decided to ask Swartz Creek Superintendent Rod Hetherton and Dr. Brad Lusk, Hamilton’s school chief, back for a final round of public interviews next Thursday at the district’s Administration Building (183 W. Roosevelt Ave.). They emerged from 22 total applications, and were chosen ahead of Olivet Superintendent John Mertz, Ravenna Superintendent Greg Helmer, current Zeeland Assistant Superintendent Jon Voss, and Dr. Pete Wilson, Superintendent of schools in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
The district has been without a permanent operational school leader since Dr. Brandi Lyn-Mendham took a medical leave of absence last October, and a joint decision between her and the board that she would not return to the post was announced in April. Matt Stolz was initially named as the interim superintendent, but when he left, also in April, for a position with neighboring West Ottawa schools, Dr. Scott Korpak came out of retirement to take over, also on an interim basis.
Hetherton’s final interview is set for 5 PM on June 19th, with Lusk’s session about 90 minutes later. An hour-long Candidate Open House is slated for 3:30 on that same day.
The Zeeland Board of Education is on record as wishing to have a new superintendent in place by July 1st.
