HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jun. 26, 2025) – As Christmas Day is now officially less than six months away, the hope of having skaters grace a new outdoor ice skating ribbon at Holland’s Window on the Waterfront Park by the holiday continues to grow.
Those who drive by or walk along the site off of East 6th Street and College Avenue can see the concrete base of the skating path already in place, along with buildings for gatherings and equipment. Efforts to get the foundation for a curling surface are also visible.
Assistant City Manager Matt Van Dyken has been the point man for this $11 million project.
Audio PlayerA planned opening of late this fall is still on target. Fund raising for this project was spurred by a $1 million donation by the late Frank Kraai, a Holland teacher who gave most of his life savings to have his dream of a public outdoor skating rink realized. He died shortly after ground was broken in April of last year.
