GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 9, 2025) – Two elderly men from Hudsonville were seriously injured when the plane they were in crashed upon takeoff from a small airport north of Jenison on Tuesday afternoon.
First responders were dispatched to Riverview Airport off of Taylor Street around 1:40 PM. Witnesses told them that a Cessna 177 craft had initially veered off to the east side of the runway before crossing over to the other side, and crashing into a water-filled gravel pit. A couple of witnesses were able to get the 84-year-old pilot and his 83-year-old passenger out of the plane and onto the shore. A LIFE EMS ambulance transported the men to an undisclosed “local hospital” for treatment.
As is standard procedure when a plane crash occurs, any findings made by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies and Georgetown Township Fire Department crews will be forwarded to staffers with the Federal Aviation Administration, who will complete the investigation into this incident.
