OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 12, 2025) – A couple of local projects before members of the Planning and Policy Committee of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners were recommended for approval during their monthly meeting on Tuesday morning.
First, county Parks and Recreation Director Jason Shamblin asked for a $347,000 expenditure for building a modern, year-round restroom at the popular 84th Avenue day use area of the Upper Macatawa Natural Area east of Holland.
This would match a Land and Water Conservation Fund program grant for the nearly $700,000 price tag for the project.
In addition, Shamblin put forward a proposed $168,000-plus agreement with VP Construction for rebuilding the existing dune climb stairs at Tunnel Park, as well as the beach access stairs at Kirk Park.
This would also include repairs and improvements to the Kirk Park beach overlook deck and dune ridge boardwalk, with work beginning after Labor Day and be ready for next spring.
These measures will now be brought before the entire board for final consideration, probably at its August 26th business meeting. An online link to the meeting agenda and supporting documents is here.
