OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 14, 2025) – Despite negative publicity over the last two and a half years, the opportunity to be the operational leader of Ottawa County government is still alluring.
During Tuesday’s Planning and Policy Committee of the Board of Commissioners monthly meeting, Interim County Administrator Gary Rosema told the panel that there are 57 applicants for the vacant full-time Administrator position. Of that number, 24 expressed their willingness to remain in consideration from an earlier search conducted by the formerly-retained consultant Double Haul Solutions, and 23 more submitted applications before the August 11th deadline.
Interim Deputy County Administrator Ron Frantz said that commissioners will have the information on the hopefuls at their disposal by next Tuesday, August 19th.
Neither Rosema, a retired county sheriff, or Frantz, a retired county prosecutor, are interested in staying on.
Ottawa County hasn’t had a permanent administrator since John Gibbs was relieved of his duties on February 29th of last year. Rosema is the third interim operational leader since that time, and two previous searches failed to turn up anyone suitable to the board, or willing to assume the post.
The Ottawa County Board’s next business meeting is on August 26th.
