HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 19, 2025) – The reach of a Holland-based non-profit conservation group is expanding.
On Monday, the Outdoor Discovery Center Network announced that five entities – the cities of Douglas, Fennville and Saugatuck, along with Saugatuck Township and the Rotary Club of Saugatuck-Douglas – have pledged financial support for efforts to renew the Kalamazoo River Greenway. No exact dollar amount was disclosed, but the money will go towards managing invasive species, expand natural areas, and community outreach efforts.
In May, the city of Saugatuck opened up a 169-acre Saugatuck Wilds Nature Preserve, in conjunction with the ODC Network, at the site of what was a proposed local airport. This is part of a Kalamazoo River Greenway Master Plan developed by the non-profit seven years ago to connect communities from the mouth of the river at Lake Michigan east through the Fennville area.
