Barbara Ann Ver Beek of Hamilton MI passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and sons on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 70.
Her life was centered on her family and her faith. Born on March 28, 1955, in Grand Rapids, MI, she was the eldest of two girls adopted by William & Gladys Jean Beckman of Holland, MI. She retells of a fun childhood in a friendly neighborhood and graduated from Holland Christian High School. During the hot summer of 1975 she was attending Hope College when she met Randy Lee Ver Beek and he proposed at her father’s Mountain Beach cottage. They married March 5,1976 and shared 49 loving years.
Barb held many roles over the years, working at LifeSavers, Shoreline Orthopedic, and South Washington Family Medicine. She was an active member in the Oakland Christian Reformed Church, worked as a custodian, and volunteered for years at City on Hill ministries but the most important role to her was stay at home mother, grandmother, and babysitter to many family friends that she loved like her own.
She had unconditional love for others and spoiled her family well. Barb was a good listener, loved to talk, and had a knack for remembering all the fine details. She was an avid reader, collector of fine china, and enjoyed playing games with the grandkids. She enjoyed baking from scratch, visits to the Holland Peanut Store, DJ’s pizza and family cookouts by the pond.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and father-in-law Gordan Ver Beek.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Randall Lee Ver Beek, 3 sons; Ryan Ver Beek, Jonathan (Missy) Ver Beek, Matthew (Audrey) Ver Beek, grandchildren; Jacob & Jaiden Edwards, Brady Ver Beek, Hudson Ver Beek, Nathan & Jessica Ribbens, Eli, June, Anna, and Colleen Ver Beek. Her sister Doug & Mary Sawyer, Alex Sawyer, Annie Stewart, mother-in-law, Henreitta Ver Beek; brother and sister in laws, Robert & Sally Hoffman, Don & Mary Slotman, Randy & Jane Schutter, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with the family is 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, MI 49423.
Private memorial services are being planned with family.
Burial to take place in Bentheim Cemetery.
