LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 12, 2025) – It took more than eight months and two separate searches, but Laketown Township finally has someone to permanently replace Al Meshkin.
On Thursday, officials of the Lakeshore community announced that Stephanie Fox has signed a two-year contract to become the township’s new manager. The deal is for an annual salary of $110,000, with bonuses and evaluations set up after 30, 90, and 180 days on the job.
Fox comes to Laketown from the City of Kentwood, where she had been the Executive Assistant to Mayor Stephen Kepley. She emerged as the preferred candidate from 45 applicants who sought the managerial job that Meshkin retired from in January after 37 years.
Although she was chosen by township trustees on a 4-1 vote in July, Fox had to go through a final interview process two weeks ago when concerns from her tenure as Ionia County Administrator surfaced. She answered questions about those concerns, and the trustees again voted 4-1 to offer her a contract.
“I am honored to serve as the next Laketown Township manager. I am eager to work collaboratively with the board, staff, and residents to accomplish the goals of the township. Laketown Township is a wonderful community, and I look forward to ensuring it continues to thrive!” – Stephanie Fox
Ironically, Fox signed the agreement with Supervisor Stephen Ringelberg, who had handled the managerial duties on an interim bases when Meshkin stepped down, and who was the lone voice against her in both votes. She will assume her new duties during the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 3.
