GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 18, 2025) – A free event to benefit veterans and their families is set for midday on Thursday.
From 10 AM to 2 PM at Grand Haven’s Central Park Place (421 Columbus Ave.), the Ottawa County Veterans Services department holds its second annual Veterans Stand Down and Resource Fair.
The first such event last year at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place eventually led to the hiring of the department’s Community Outreach Specialist, Caleb Worpel.
The Veterans Services department was one of the areas overhauled by the Ottawa County Board during the tenure of Board Chairman Joe Moss, and the hiring of Jason Schenkel as its director has been a plus, according to Commissioner Doug Zylstra.
Last year, more than 175 vets were served at this event, and organizers are hoping for more this time around.
