JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2025) – The replacement of a culvert south of Hudsonville has proven to be a issue beyond just the actual work itself.
For the second time since work on the project, which closed Byron Road between 40th and 32nd avenues last Monday, an injury crash has occurred on the designated detour route. Last Tuesday, a 50-year-old Byron Center man was seriously injured when his pickup truck drove into another pickup on 40th Avenue and Riley Street, resulting in the two vehicles veering into a nearby house and causing some minor damage. The Ottawa County Road Commission Board then ordered a temporary four-way stop at that intersection for the duration of the culvert replacement project, which is slated to go through October 10th.
On Friday evening around 6:30 PM, a vehicle attempting to pull out of a driveway onto 32nd Avenue near Felch Street went right into the path of a northbound motorcycle, which couldn’t veer out of the way in time, causing a collision. The 32-year-old Holland man driving the motorcycle, along with a 27-year-old Caledonia woman, who was his passenger, were both thrown from the machine. Both of them, who were helmeted, were taken to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, while the vehicle driver, a 23-year-old Hudsonville man, was not hurt.
No names have been disclosed as both crashes remain under investigation.
