JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 24, 2025) – A third injury collison in a week’s time, near where a culvert is being replaced south of Hudsonville, was reported on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Tamminga, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Byron Road and 48th Avenue around 4:10 PM. That was where a northbound sedan apparently drove through a stop sign and into the path of a pickup truck hauling a trailer containing ashphalt. The subsequent crash caused both vehicles to veer off of the roadway, with the truck on top of the sedan, which had ended up on its side.
The unnamed 40-year-old Hastings man in the sedan had to extricated by rescue workers, and he was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The pickup driver, a 34-year-old Holland man, was not hurt.
This intersection itself has seen its share of crashes over the years, and is about a mile to the west of where Byron Road is blocked off due to a culvert replacement project that began on September 15th and is slated to run through October 10th. There were two reported injury collisions along the posted detour route since the closure began, and a temporary four-way stop at the corner of 40th Avenue and Riley Street was ordered by the Ottawa County Road Commission Board last week following one of those crashes.
