HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 4, 2025) – A few voters will be asked to cast ballots on this Municipal General Election Tuesday in Michigan.
Cities and some other units of government will be looking to fill seats on its governing panels, as well as resolve ballot proposals.
Contested races along the Lakeshore include four in Holland: Incumbent Mayor Nathan Bocks against challenger Brian Everitt, incumbent At-Large Councilman Quincy Byrd against challenger Abby Klomparens, incumbent First Ward Councilman Tim Vreeman against challenger and former Councilwoman Linda Falstad, and incumbent Third Ward Council Member Belinda Sol against challenger Tim Marroquin.
In Zeeland, six hopefuls are vying for three council seats, with incumbent Glenn Kass facing challengers Andrew Bult, Kylee DeBoer, Erika Humbert, Amy Langeland, and Rebecca Perkins.
In Saugatuck, five hopefuls are vying for three council seats, with incumbents Holly Anderson, Joe Clark and Russ Gardner facing challengers John Mayer and Sherry Tedaldi.
In Hudsonville, incumbent commissioners Jack Groot and Jeremy Kamp are being challenged for their seats by Gabrielle Dunai and Thomas Verstraete, respectively.
In Grand Haven, Erin Lyon, Sarah Kallio and Dennis Scott are vying for two open council seats.
In Ferrysburg, Mayor Richard Carlson is being challenged by Jerry Sias, while incumbent Council Members Bill Cate and Debbie Murdoch are being challenged by David Cook and Tim O’Donnell for three seats.
In Coopersville, incumbent Council Members Shane Gerard, Jillian Poelma and Peter Weise are being challenged by Jamie Adams and Tiffany Langlois for three seats.
In Wayland, incumbent Council Members Megan Mickelson and Steven Stepek are being challenged by Aubrey Chubb and Abe Garcia for three seats.
As for ballot proposals: Holland voters will be asked to approve a Headlee Override request to prevent a mandated property tax cut that city officials say would mean service cuts by the end of the decade; Zeeland Public Schools is asking for approval of a $186 million bond request; Fillmore Township has three separate requests to renew a fire and first response protection millage, set a millage for participation in the Herrick District Library, and renew the water/sewer millage; Grand Haven voters are being asked to approve a new two-mill public safety millage; and in Hopkins, a one-mill increase for road improvements is proposed.
Polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.
