On Thursday, February 12th, Ruth Ann Bult exchanged time for eternity. She was 87 years old. Her only comfort was that she belonged, body and soul, in life and in death, to her faithful savior, Jesus Christ.
Ruth was born on July 27, 1938 in Overisel, Michigan to Edward and Frances (Diepenhorst) Nyhof. Rooted in these humble beginnings, her life bore the fruit of contentment, simplicity, and humility.
She grew up on the family farm, washing eggs each morning before going to school in a one-room schoolhouse. She remembers washing double the amount on Mondays to account for Sunday Sabbath rest. She went on to Holland Christian High School where she graduated in the class of 1956.
She began working for the Wolbrink Insurance Agency as a senior in high school and worked there for nearly 40 years before transitioning to Huntington Bank where she finished her career. She was a volunteer at Zeeland Hospital for 15 years and was a consistent visitor to those who were sick and shut-in on behalf of her church.
Ruth was baptized, did her profession of faith, and met Paul, her husband of 62 years, all at Overisel Christian Reformed Church. They married on October 18,1963. Paul and Ruth contributed to, and received from, the life of the church there. In their subsequent worshipping communities- Holland Heights CRC and Central Avenue CRC- God gave them additional blessings of worship, formation, fellowship, and opportunities to serve.
Ruth was a loving, faithful, and consistent wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She loved her family, friends, neighbors, and fellow congregants. Her gentleness was evident to all. These Christ-like traits and a love for God have been planted in her children and grandchildren alike, all of whom, by God’s grace, have committed their lives to following the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Marian Nyhof, Hazel (Nyhof) Vork, brother-in-law Ken Vork, and in-laws Conrad and Delores (Lampen) Bult.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Paul. Children Steven (Pam) and Michael (Andrea), grandchildren Nate Bult, Meredith (Spencer) Thalmayer, and Marcus (Maaike) Bult, Eli and Annika Bult.
She is survived by her brother Edwin (Judy) Nyhof.
Visitation will be held at Langland-Sterenberg funeral home, 315 E 16th street, Holland, on Wednesday, Feb 18th from 5-7pm.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 10:00am at Central Avenue CRC, 259 Central Ave. Holland with Rev. Chad Steenwyk officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to Holland Christian Schools.
