GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 1, 2026) – Nearly 300 Consumers Energy customers spent much of Saturday night and early Sunday morning in the dark, while a stretch of a main road in eastern Ottawa County was blocked off, following a single-vehicle crash that knocked down a utility pole east of Jenison.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Alex DeJong, a 32-year-old Jenison man had been driving a pick up truck westbound on Baldwin Street shortly before 10 PM when he lost control on an icy roadway near 12th Avenue. The vehicle skidded off and struck the pole at the intersection, causing power lines to fall onto the roadway.
The unnamed driver escaped injury, but it took utility crews some time to reach the scene and effect repairs. An investigation into this incident continues, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (616-738-4000).
