Susan Siu-Ying Chiu passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Taishan, Guangdong, China, Susan immigrated to the United States as a young girl. During her time at the University of Wisconsin, she met her husband of 54 years. Together they built a beautiful life, eventually settling in Wheaton, Illinois, where they raised their two children, Jeff and Laura.
Later in life, when Susan became a grandmother (Mah Mah), she moved to Hudsonville, Michigan, to be closer to her beloved grandsons. Being with Preston and Nolan was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she loved them deeply.
Susan found peace and happiness in the simple beauty of nature. An avid gardener, she spent countless hours tending to her garden and caring for her many houseplants, finding quiet joy in watching them grow and flourish.
Susan also enjoyed traveling and exploring new destinations, delighting in the unique foods and traditions that made each place special. Whether near or far, she embraced every experience with curiosity, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for life.
Above all else, Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She gave her whole heart to her family – her love was constant, generous, and unwavering.
Susan is survived by her husband, Brendon; her children, Jeff (Angela) and Laura; and her grandchildren, Preston and Nolan. She will be forever missed by her family and all who knew her. Susan was truly one of a kind, and to have been loved by her is a gift that will be treasured always.
A small private ceremony will be held by the family at a future date.
The Chiu family is being served by Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland, MI 49464.
