SPRING LAKE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 6, 2026) – A Fruitport area manufacturing plant sustained fire damage following a Sunday evening blaze.
As many as 14 first-responding agencies descended upon the Linamar Structures plant off of Apple Drive just before 9:30 PM when flames were reported at the facility. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, and although there were some chemical exposure concerns, HAZMAT crews were able to make sure that no toxic situation occurred.
All workers inside were able to evacuate the premises safely, and while some residents in a neighboring area left their homes voluntarily, there wasn’t a need to issue a formal evacuation order. There were no reports of any injuries suffered by any first responders.
An initial investigation indicated that the fire may have been started accidentally through a welding incident, and that there was no evidence of any arson. No dollar estimate of damage caused was initially determined, and there was no announcement by company officials of the impact of plant operations as a result of the blaze.
