HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There is an online effort to make the dream of a play-and-learn nature park in Holland a reality.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Outdoor Discovery Center Network announced on Tuesday (May 18, 2021) a drive to raise $50,000 by July 19th. Offered through the crowdfunding platform Patronicity, the drive would, if that goal is reached, trigger a matching grant from the MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Program to finance a one-acre space at Window on the Waterfront for a state-of-the-art park.
The WOW Nature Play Park would include climbing structures, slides, fully accessible walking paths, creative play areas, an amphitheater and pavilion, greenspace, abundant landscaping, and adjacent parking. ODC Network officials claim that there isn’t a playground within a 20-minute walk from downtown Holland.
In a statement released by the MEDC, ODC Network CEO Travis Williams said, “We are grateful that MEDC has accepted our WOW Nature Play Park to participate in the Public Spaces Community Places program. Holland has always had the vision and goal to be the best community to live, work, play and learn. It has been in our DNA to work together to get better wherever we can.
“Now, with the MEDC partnership and its match of our community fundraising for the WOW Park, we are confident we can build this new state-of-the-art amenity which would help carry our downtown to the next level of greatness and provide hours of nature play for families in our community.”
