GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Charges have been filed against the mother of a six-year-old Ferrysburg boy who drowned in June in the waters of Lake Michigan off of Holland State Park.
On Thursday, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Mark Bennett, in a statement, said, “After an almost three-month investigation, sheriff’s detectives have submitted the facts of this drowning case to the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Detectives looked into the case surrounding the death of Iain Rowe. The boy went into Lake Michigan at the Holland State Park when he was there with his mother on June 6, 2020. The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team found Iain’s body in Lake Michigan on June 7, just north of the Holland Channel, and his death was ruled a drowning.
“In presenting the case completed investigation to the Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal charge was requested for Iain’s mother, Miranda Rowe, and the prosecutor authorized a charge of Child Neglect in the 3rd Degree.”
The 33-year-old mother from Spring Lake turned herself in on Thursday and submitted a plea of guilty to the charge in Holland District Court. Miranda Rowe is currently free on bond pending sentencing at an undisclosed date.
