HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Icy road conditions are being blamed for a two-vehicle crash that critically injured a Zeeland resident, Diego Santoyo, 25, and sent several others to Holland Hospital.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Ensfield said Santoyo had been driving north on I-196 near the 31 mile marker near Fennville, when his vehicle slid into a ditch. He was standing outside his car when the driver of another vehicle hit the icy patch and also lost control, hitting Santoyo.
The crashes happened just after 10:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, and Ensfield indicated occupants of both vehicles were also hospitalized with injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Life EMS, South Haven EMS and Ganges firefighters assisted Sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
