TROWBRIDGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 29, 2022) – A two-vehicle crash just north of the Allegan/Van Buren county line on Saturday evening hospitalized two persons from the Chicagoland area.
According to Allegan County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Brett Ensfield, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of M-40 and 102nd Avenue, between Allegan and Gobles, at 5:38 PM. “The preliminary investigation shows that a pick-up truck, traveling westbound on 102nd Avenue and driven by a Watervliet man, failed to yield to a SUV traveling northbound on M-40, causing an collision,” Ensfield said in a department statement. “The SUV was occupied by two men from the Streamwood, IL area, with the driver transported by LIFE EMS for minor injuries, and the passenger transported for a serious injury. It was determined that the passenger was not wearing his safety belt, which contributed to his injuries.”
The intersection in question has a flashing light above it – yellow for M-40 and red for 102nd Avenue – with stop signs facing 102nd Avenue displayed prominently at each corner of the junction
The driver, according to Ensfield, “refused any medical treatment.” No names were disclosed, as the crash remains under investigation, and Ensfield added that, “alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.”
