Shirley waited for the love of her life, John, to say goodbye before passing on. In 1954, John and Shirley met one another in Florida. It was love at first sight. That meeting began a 67 year long Love Affair, 2 years dating through the U.S. mail while John served in the Navy and 65 years spent married.
This world has lost a remarkable woman; she will continue her heart felt work in Heaven. She loved her time at PPCC since 1937. Spending the last 20 plus years winters in Gulf Shores, AL, she and John made incredible friends.
Her kind, giving, and loving heart was felt by anyone she met. Of late, her time was spent knitting her famous washcloths for two local animal shelters (Al-Van Humane Society and Wishbone Pet Rescue). She also made over 1,000 Red Cross period correct WWII scarves. They were sent to the National WWII Museum and distributed to hospitalized veterans country wide.
She is survived by her husband John, her children Marty (Don) and John (Lisa), and grandchildren Hannah, Conrad, and Julia. She is and will be sorely missed by one and all.
Memorial donations can be made to Al-Val Humane Society (07591 Blue Star Hwy, South Haven, MI 49090) and to the National WWII Museum (945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130).
A private family, graveside service will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery. Memory Tribute to be determined at a later date.
