HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 5, 2022) – A spending plan for the City of Holland in Fiscal 2023 was approved last night.
During the biweekly business meeting, the City Council held a public hearing ahead of the vote on the budget that will dip into reserves of just over $89,000 in order to balance the $28.5 million general fund spreadsheet. This will prevent any increase of the current tax rate of 13.8 mills.
Among the items spotlighted in the spending plan is the remodeling of one fire station and the building of another; purchasing a new pumper truck for the fire department; bring on board three new fire personnel; and continue long-term efforts such as the Waterfront Holland initiative, expanding a community-owned broadband fiber network, and implementation of the Community Energy Plan.
“We’ve got a lot of great programs and a lot of things that the staff has worked very hard, very diligently to try and save money,” said Holland Mayor Nathan Bocks about the spending plan. “While last year was a very uncertain time with COVID, we’re moving away from that uncertainty a little bit into an area of a little bit more understanding, and our city staff has put together some great tools for us.”
