VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Florida man was arrested for drunk driving by Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies while still holding onto to his beer.
It all began around 6:45 Wednesday evening, August 17, when a passing motorist flagged down deputies to alert them of a reckless driver in front of them traveling east bound on M-43.
Deputies were able to catch up with the driver, who was seen drifting onto the shoulder and crossing the center line.
They were able to get the driver to stop at 46th Street in Waverly Township before they sped away continuing east on M-43. Deputies were able to catch up with the vehicle again and followed it as it turned north off of M-43 onto 44th Street.
The driver then continued to travel off the roadway, entering cross traffic, until going on a dirt road and losing control. According to deputies, he then exited his vehicle with a beer in hand.
Authorities say the 27-year-old’s blood alcohol content was almost four times over the legal limit.
The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on multiple charges.
