HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 30, 2022) – A 24-year-old Holland man is in custody and awaits arraignment on charges stemming from a Sunday morning robbery of a convenience store on the way to the beach on Holland’s North Side.
Around 6 AM, before a 65-year-old man opened the Mobil Mart off of Ottawa Beach Road, the suspect smashed the glass front door, and brandishing a baseball bat, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing. The unnamed clerk had to be hospitalized for a medical condition apparently unrelated to the incident.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, department investigators were able to identify the suspect and interviewed him at his Holland residence. A follow-up search warrant led to the recovery of the stolen cash and additional evidence, leading to an arrest. The identity of the suspect will be disclosed following arraignment in Holland District Court.
Sparks added that the case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
