HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 3, 2022) – No injuries to occupants or firefighters were reported after a blaze at a home on Holland’s West Side yesterday.
According to Department of Public Safety Fire Operations Captain Chris Tinney, crews were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West 17th Street, between Van Raalte and Harrison avenues, shortly before 3:30 PM. They found heavy fire when they arrived, with smoke throughout the structure.
It turned out that the blaze was coming from the kitchen, and although firefighters were able to bring the flames under control quickly, there was damage extended to the back of the house, with heavy smoke in both floors of the residence.
The occupants of the home were able to escape before crews arrived. No cause for the fire was immediately determined, nor was a dollar estimate of the damage made, as the incident remains under investigation.
Ironically, yesterday’s blaze came on the second day of National Fire Prevention Month and a week ahead of National Fire Prevention Week. Holland’s Fire Truck Parade is this Friday, October 7, as over 50 trucks from departments throughout the region will travel down 8th Street to the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place, where they will park for public display, and safety demonstrations will be made.
