HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 21, 2022) –The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that originated in Holland Township at approximately 02:10 a.m. Monday At that time, deputies responded after receiving a report of a vehicle being stolen (UDAA) from the mobile home park located at 523 Butternut Dr. in Holland Township. The vehicle was stolen, along with the purse, wallet and credit cards belonging to the victim. Those items had been inside the vehicle when it was stolen. Deputies made contact with the victim and encouraged her to cancel her credit cards, while they continued to investigate the vehicle theft.
At approximately 03:25 a.m. deputies received information that a female subject was at a gas station in the 17280 block of Hayes St. in Grand Haven Township, where she was attempting to use credit cards that had been reported stolen during the initial UDAA.
Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Grand Haven Department Public Safety arrived on scene as the suspect attempted to flee in the stolen vehicle. The suspect struck a curb and then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to a nearby business. The suspect scaled a stack of crates or pallets approximately fifteen feet in the air and refused to come down while threatening police.
Eventually, the female was taken into custody and is being treated at an area hospital, where she will be cleared medically before being lodged at the Ottawa County Jail for charges related to the UDAA and use of stolen credit cards. Her name will not be released pending formal charges and arraignment.
The original victim’s stolen vehicle and other property were recovered at the scene and returned to her.
