PORT SHELDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 8, 2023) – An investigation continues into the death of a 58-year-old Port Sheldon woman whose body was found floating in a pond at a mobile home park between Holland and Grand Haven.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies and other first responders were dispatched around 3:40 PM on Sunday to the West Olive Estates complex off of 146th Avenue on a report of a child seen in the waters of that pond there. When the authorities arrived, they found that the body was that of Brenda Boals, who had lived in the vicinity of that pond, and although they took her out of the water promptly, she was declared dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sparks didn’t go into what led to the woman being in the pond, and said that the cause of death won’t be determined until an autopsy is completed, but that foul play wasn’t initially suspected. The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
