SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 3, 2023) – Although the race for Saugatuck City Council seats next month will not be a contested one now, the League of Women Voters of the Holland Area is still going through with a scheduled Candidate Forum on Tuesday evening.
The 90-minute session that begins at 6:30 PM in Saugatuck High’s new Auditorium will feature incumbent Russ Gardner, along with aspirants Holly Anderson and Logan White, answering questions put forward by a league moderator. Another incumbent, former Mayor Garnet Lewis, has withdrawn from the race, telling the Holland Sentinel in Tuesday’s editions that she is moving into neighboring Saugatuck Township, therefore eliminating herself from consideration due to residency requirements.
Lewis had pled guilty in August to a misdemeanor count of failing to report a violation on a nominating/initiative petition stemming from an April arrest over not signing a submitted petition sheet. She was handed a delayed sentence dependant on her paying a $500 fine along with court costs by this coming February.
