GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 4, 2024) – A driver and three passengers were injured in a two-vehicle crash south of Grand Haven on Sunday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill, deputies believe that this incident on southbound US-31 near Fillmore Street just before 3 PM was one of “road rage.”
“A preliminary investigation, based on observations and witness statements on scene, revealed that the two involved vehicles were traveling south on US-31 when they engaged in some type of ‘road rage’ aggressive driving. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles and left the roadway.” – Ottawa Co. Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill
A 54-year-old man, driving a luxury vehicle, and his 38-year-old female passenger, both from West Olive, suffered bumps and bruises that did not require treatment on the scene. A 29-year-old woman driving a SUV and her 30-year-old male passenger, both from Holland’s North Side, were taken by ambulance to Corewell Health-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Three children in the SUV were all taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. A 10-year-old girl and a nine-year-old girl were thrown from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, while a six-year-old girl had a less serious ailment.
It took about three hours to clear the scene, and no names were immediately disclosed. Anyone who may have witnessed the two vehicles involved (a Cadillac and a Jeep Grand Cherokee) prior to the crash is asked to contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch (800-249-0911) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
