Mildred Arlene Taylor, age 98, of Zeeland, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Mildred was born and raised in Zeeland, one of eleven children and devoted her life to caring for her large family. Despite leaving school early to support her siblings, Mildred eventually raised a family of her own, sharing 50 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Willard. Known for her unwavering dedication, Mildred served as a Cub Scout leader and guided Brownies and Girl Scouts through their formative years.
For 18 years, Mildred brought comfort and care to the residents of Haven Park Nursing Home. She lived a colorful life, finding joy in music, coloring, and cheering on her favorite team, the Detroit Tigers. Mildred had a weakness for sweets, with a particular fondness for ice cream. Above all, she cherished her many grandchildren, ensuring that her home was a place of warmth and fun-filled memories. The grandchildren knew, “what happens at Grandma’s stays at Grandma’s.”
Mildred will be deeply missed by those who survive, including her children: Beverly Montez, Donna Taylor, Jim Taylor, Sue (Tim), Pluister, Bob (Trina) Taylor, Dick Taylor, Willie (Marj) Taylor, Dawn (Dean) Smith; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Heybloem; brother Lee Veldhuis; and sister-in-law, Jackkie Veldhuis.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Willard E Taylor Sr. in 1995, her son Terry “Butch” Taylor in 1965, and her son-in-law, Andy Montez in 2022.
