SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 23, 2024) – There could be a new Saugatuck City Manager in place shortly.
That Lakeshore community’s City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, in which three finalists were queried during separate interviews as to why they should replace Ryan Heise as Saugatuck’s operational leader. Former Paw Paw Village Manager William Joseph, Officer-in-Charge for the US Coast Guard Station Niagara William Shehan, a one-time Operations Manager for the Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven, and current Interim City Manager Ryan Cummins emerged from 48 hopefuls who submitted job applications to make their final pitch before Councilman Russ Gardner and his colleagues in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.).
On a 5-2 vote, Cummins, the city’s Planning and Zoning Administrator who was handed the operational reins for the moment when Heise stepped down in February, was chosen by the Council to enter into contract negotiations for full-time duties. Once an agreement is reached, the interim will be taken off of his title.
