Jan married her husband Leroy “Lee” on April 3, 1982. Together, they raised two sons, Michael and Sean in Zeeland. Jan graduated from Pine Rest Nursing School and worked as an LPN for many years, and was particularly fond of her time working for Dr. Dennis Hammond in Grand Rapids.
A member of Peace Reformed Church for several years, Jan was strong in her faith and cherished the friendships made with members of the congregation. She also volunteered for Kids Hope, Vacation Bible School, and taught Sunday School for several years and had a positive impact on those she mentored. Jan had a heart for helping and supporting others, and loved celebrating every aspect of life. In addition, Jan was a breast cancer survivor since 2001 and was a fierce supporter and mentor for other women facing cancer.
Jan loved spending time with family and friends, sharing memories, and making others smile. She will be remembered fondly for her zest for life, generous spirit, and unwavering faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nick and Lula Lindsey; her son Michael Wabeke; father-and mother-in-law Willard and Beatrice Wabeke; brother-and sister-in-law Randy and Darlene Wabeke; as well as niece Alexa Lindsey and nephew Ryan Brunink.
Jan is survived by her devoted husband Lee; son Sean (Emily) Wabeke; siblings Pam (Greg) Phillips, Dave (Mary) Lindsey, and Jeff Lindsey. She is also survived by brother-in law Garry Wabeke, sister-in-law Lila (Bob) Brunink, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, she is survived by many cherished friends and beloved dog Lula.
Services for Jan will be held at Lakeshore Memorial Services – 11939 James St. Holland, MI 49424. A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 25 from 5-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service, followed by private family burial.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or Kids Hope.
