LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 12, 2024) – Two projects in Ottawa County are in line for a share of more than $21.3 million dollars in state funding.
A Tuesday announcement from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Revitalization and Placemaking program indicated that a three-story building in downtown Zeeland will be receiving up to $900,000. The money will go towards renovating 135 and 137 East Main Avenue into a new 28,000-plus square-foot mixed-use structure with 22 residential units and over 9,400 square feet of retail space.
Scott Geerlings of the development firm that bears his family’s name, which is behind the project, says that this initiative is aimed at being affordable in both housing and retail opportunities. The project has been in the works for more than three years, when the city purchased the property.
The other grant towards the Lakeshore, of up to $1.5 million, is going to the Winsor Place development in Spring Lake. When completed, the three-story, 35,000-plus square-foot building at the site of a former school will have 41 residential units, along with retail space and integrated parkin.
Other communities receiving Revitalization and Placemaking grants from the MEDC are in Cheboygan, Lowell, and Petoskey.
