HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 19, 2024) – A Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services Officer and a 30-year-old Holland man are recovering in separate areas after a predawn altercation across from Holland City Hall on Thursday morning.
According to Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, the unnamed officer and a partner spotted Marcellus Marquise Taylor sleeping on the steps of Herrick District Library off of West 12th Street around 4 AM. Aware that several warrants were out for the arrest of the suspect, the officers attempted to apprehend Taylor, but a struggle ensued, and one of the officers suffered an injury to a shoulder that necessitate treatment at Holland Hospital. Additional units responded at the scene, and the arrest was eventually secured.
Taylor was arraigned via video in 58th District Court on Thursday afternoon on not only the outstanding warrants, but also on resisting and obstructing charges, as well as a count of possession of a controlled substance, stemming from this incident. He remains in the Ottawa County Jail on $25,000 pending a preliminary hearing.
