Kathryn (Kathie) E. Baumann, age 96, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Our Mom knew she would spend eternity in Heaven – but she would say “I guess my room is not ready yet “as she waited patiently. Her room became ready on Thursday January 2 as she was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and reunited with our Dad. She was a woman of strong, quiet Faith and touched the lives of so many people.
Kathie was born on March 20,1928 in Holland to Martin and Effie Dykstra Haveman. She was the third of 8 children. She grew up in Holland and graduated from Holland High School. She married Chester L Baumann on July 29, 1947. They raised their three children in the Maplewood area of Holland. She was a member of Harlem Reformed Church. Mom worked alongside Dad to build his State Farm Insurance agency. They spent their later years in Jensen Beach Florida, at their cottage on Upper Silver Lake and in Holland.
They had a large circle of friends in all these communities. Mom was an talented seamstress and loved to knit and crochet. Her many sweaters, mittens, hats afghans and doll clothes are treasured by many. She made and donated many gift items to Evergreen Commons gift shop.
Her husband Chet proceeded her in death in June 2020 after nearly 74 years together.
She is survived by her children – Linda and Rich Vander Kooi; Steve and Bev Baumann; Joe and Cindy Baumann. She is also survived by 7 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren/ Bonus Great Grandchildren. Marc and Melissa Vander Kooi(Allison, Rachel, Megan); Eric and Wendy Vander Kooi (Katelynn, Brett); Jeff and Jodee Vander Kooi (Abbi and Luke Petro, Seth, Lydia, Hannah; Madie and Jake Bowen, Shayden and Angela Fisher, Liam Fisher, Reid Fisher); Emily and Joel Meiste (Ashley and Makayla Mead, Ein Joiner, Nataleigh Meiste); Nate Baumann (Lauren , Jenna); Betsey and Geoff Smeenge ( Maicol, Matias); Derek and Karissa Baumann.
Sister – Connie and Ken Vugteveen; Brothers and Sisters in law – Don and Linda Baumann, Glady and Gerrit Huitsing, Sandy Haveman. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeshore Senior Care for the loving care and companionship they gave Mom for the past three years. You are very special people! She loved each and every one of you.
Funeral services will be 11am Monday (January 13) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street with Rev. john Nyitray officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Sunday (January 12) at the chapel.
