LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 28, 2025) – It’s back to square one for Laketown Township in the search for a new operational leader.
On Tuesday, the township announced that Bob Genetski has asked to have his name withdrawn from consideration for the Manager position. Already elected to a third four-year term as Allegan County Clerk/Register of Deeds, the one-time state House Representative had been recommended for the post by a search committee in November, and a tentative contract agreement had been put forward for board approval.
However, such endorsement by the five-member governing body was not forthcoming, and earlier in January, the board passed a resolution to offer the position to Bronson City Manger Brandon Mersman, who had lost out to Genetski in getting the initial search committee recommendation. Mersman subsequently told the board he was no longer interested in the job, and the board then turned to Genetski, who hadn’t officially said no until submitting such a letter on Tuesday.
The township board meets again on Thursday at 5:30 PM at the hall (4338 Beeline Rd.), with the search situation on the agenda. Former Holland Manager Ryan Cotton of the retained consulting firm MGT, who helped in the initial managerial search, will continue to work with the township on the situation under terms of the current contract.
Laketown Township lost the services of Al Meshkin on January 3rd when he retired after 35 years at the post. Supervisor Steven Ringelberg is handling operational leadership responsibilities on an interim basis until a permanent manager is appointed.
