OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 1, 2025) – Another sign of Ottawa County’s increased commitment to serving those who served this country comes on Tuesday morning.
A 10 AM “groundbreaking” is slated for a dedicated facility designed to honor and serve local veterans. According to District 8 Commissioner Sylvia Rhodea of Allendale, it will re-purpose a building on the Fillmore Street county government campus in West Olive.
An overlooked achievement of the board during Rhodea’s first two-year term was the overhaul of the county’s veterans services department, with Jason Schenkel taking over the directorship on a full-time basis.
A timetable for when the Ottawa County Veterans Services department will be moved, from it’s current location inside the county building off of James Street on Holland’s North Side to the Fillmore Street Complex, was not immediately disclosed.
