ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 4, 2025) – The Zeeland City Council has a few items to go over during its biweekly business meeting on Monday evening.
The governing panel will be asked to waive the formal bid process and allow city staff to go ahead on up to $35,000 in emergency repairs to the City Hall building. This stems from flooding during the Independence Day holiday weekend in which the upstairs break room, along with three offices in the Community Development Department, sustained water damage. The money will come from the city’s property insurer. In addition, council members will consider whether to create a Human Resource Specialist full-time staff position, at an estimated overall cost of over $96,000 annually.
During the 6 PM work-study session beforehand, Zeeland’s leaders will discuss whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales for both the bottle and the glass, as The Gritzmaker wants the ability to serve adult beverages to pro football game patrons, among other activities. Other liquor license holders have not weighed in on this proposal. In addition, council members and staff will talk about downtown parking, including the pros and cons of building a parking deck.
The Zeeland City Council’s 7 PM business meeting will be in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
