OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 26, 2025) – The matter of finding a new Ottawa County Administrator highlights Tuesday’s monthly county Board of Commissioners business meeting.
According to the agenda ahead of the 9 AM session at the county administration building in West Olive (12220 Fillmore St.), each commissioner can take up to three minutes of public comments as to what they are looking for in the new operational leader, before the governing panel could go into a closed session, “for the purpose of reviewing and considering the contents of applications for Administrator candidates,” according to Interim Administrator Gary Rosema, who himself is not interested in keeping the position full time.
Issues with going behind closed doors were raised earlier this summer by four members of the previous board’s majority – Joe Moss, Sylvia Rhodea, Allison Miedema and Kendra Wenzel. Current Board Chairman John Teeples of Jenison believes such a move is necessary.
After the closed session, each commissioner would identify up to eight candidates by ballot without comment, using assigned numbers, with the top five hopefuls slated for interviews. There could be two alternates chosen as well, along with the possibility of creating an executive identification committee if the voting proposal isn’t agreed upon.
