UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 22, 2025) – Two public entities along the Lakeshore have meetings slated for Monday, one special and one regularly scheduled.
The special meeting is set for 4 PM at the Holland Board of Public Works‘ offices (625 Hastings Ave.). The governing panel of the municipal utility will initially go behind closed doors to discuss a proposed property acquisition and a legal opinion, both of which are legal under Michigan’s Open Meetings Act that pertain to public entities. BPW officials say that “possible action” could follow.
When the board emerges, the members are expected to conduct the third of five reviews of its governance policies, this time dealing with methods of delegating authority to the General Manager, and holding staff accountable for achieving results “within prescribed boundaries.” The review is for discussion only, with no board action slated.
Meanwhile, the Saugatuck City Council holds its 6:30 PM biweekly business meeting in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An item on the agenda has the panel voting on a nearly $43,000 contract with McNally Elevator to repair and upgrade the elevator inside City Hall, which went out this past July. McNally installed the initial machinery, and came back with a bid which was more than $23,000 under what a competing firm had submitted, along with more favorable warranty and permit terms.
In addition, council members will be asked to vote on the city’s financial share of replacing the culvert under Ferry Street, which was done this past spring. The Allegan County Drain Office is asking Saugatuck to pay nearly $62,000, around 15 percent of the project cost, of the work, with a $5,000 discount if the money is paid up front. This is despite the city having less than five acres of land in the drainage district, according to City Manager Ryan Cummins.
