LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 5, 2025) – Although no action will be taken, a number of topics could be discussed by the Laketown Township Board on Wednesday.
One item may be a recommendation by the township parks commission to install adjustable EZ steps for Laketown Beach, at a cost of $196,500. Lakeshore Concepts of Holland made the low bid from six that were submitted, and the commission needs board approval before moving forward. Last March, the old wooden steps leading through dune land to the Lake Michigan shore were removed after 32 years of use.
Another item is a proposed extension of the Interurban bus service to the township. The current rates of $1 for adults and 50 cents for children/seniors run through next March, with the township picking up the remaining costs for the kids and the elderly. The Interurban Transit Authority wants to negotiate terms with the township for 2026 shortly after the first of the year, and the board is considering asking voters for a millage to fund the bus service, similar to that in Saugatuck, Douglas, and Saugatuck Township.
After the 5 PM workshop, board members and planning commission members will meet for a final informational meeting on how the township should move forward on the issue of short-term rentals. Any decisions made during this session will be considered in separate business sessions. The township is currently on a six-month moratorium on free-standing STR through November 19th, and the planning commission will consider an extension following this information meeting.
Wednesday’s workshop and meetings are at the Laketown Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
